Jaco was once a small surfing town, but these days it's grown into a popular tourist destination. It's one of the biggest party towns in Costa Rica and it is popular with surfers and backpackers. Many people use the town as a base for exploring nearby national parks as well.

1. Nightlife
What was once a quiet surfing town is now one of the most famous party destinations in Costa Rica. There are a constantly growing number of bars and clubs around town and you'll find tons of young tourists and backpackers looking for a party.
2. Food
There's a range of restaurants around town that include hamburger joints, pizza shops, and other casual favorites. You'll find a variety of options along the main strip as well.
3. Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
You can't really snorkel at Jaco Beach because of the waves and water conditions, but there are a number of snorkeling tours that leave from town and take you to better spots.
4. Beaches
Jaco Beach is a great spot for swimming and surfing. It's lost some of its original charm, but there's still golden sand and nearby horseback riding.
5. Shopping
Many of the shops are found along the main street. There are a number of souvenir stores and a few art galleries that are worth checking out.

Is Jaco worth visiting in the Summer?
Summer is the low season for travel in Jaco. This is an extremely touristy destination, so in the low season you'll still see plenty of other travelers when you visit, but less than other times of the year. Good deals are to be found on hotels and tours because it's not the best time of year to visit.
The weather here is somewhat warm for most of the season, with average temperatures around 28°C (82°F). However, this time of year it's also rainy, so it might not be ideal for many activities.
You'll also find it quite easy to get around on foot, because this is a very walkable town, especially in the nice weather. You'll find plenty to do during summer, as you'll be able to lounge on the beach and dance the night away.

How can you save money during your time in Jaco?
I found a great long-term place to stay that really saved my budget, even though I was here for just a couple of weeks. Surfing here is great, and free once you get a board. I found plenty of delicious restaurants around that were really cheap.
