Yes, you'll find numerous reasons to visit Cadiz, and it's a port city that everyone should see. We had an amazing time here. We first visited in the summer of 2023 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with its authenticity and simple pleasures.
Whether you're a traveling as a family, a couple, or a backpacker, this port city has a lot to offer. Any local will tell you what makes it special is the terrific historical sights and great shopping.
Cadiz is the oldest city in Europe, and it is immersed in history and atmosphere. The city is filled with plazas and palm-lined promenades that give it that typical Mediterranean feel. It also has a charming old town, as well as many nearby beaches that are popular with locals but visited by international travelers. Cadiz is also home to a large Carnival festival during the months of February or March.

The old town offers a patchwork network of cobblestone streets that intertwine plazas, churches, and historic buildings.

There's a diverse mix of local boutiques, food markets, shopping centers, and street markets where you can pick up everything from local items to European fashion. If you happen to be in town on a weekend, keep in mind that many shops are only open in the morning on Saturdays and closed all day Sundays.
3. Museums and Attractions
As the oldest city in Europe, there are countless historic sights and monuments to see. Some of the most interesting historic sights include Catedral Nueva, the Arcos de los Blancos, Torre Tavira, and Museo de Cádiz.

The restaurants are good, but if you don't have reservations you're out of luck. Many restaurants fill up during the peak summer months. If you do have reservations then you can expect fresh seafood including everything from oysters to prawns and even fresh caught fish like Bluefin tuna. Make sure you try the shrimp fritters and papas con choco (cuttlefish and potato stew). Tapas are a great way to sample a number of small local dishes. Also finish your meal off with some churros.

The nightlife scene is diverse, with both cultural activities and dance clubs to choose from. Whether you're looking for a late night party or a more mellow evening on the town, there are a number of options available.

The high season for travel in Cadiz is the summer, so expect to see more tourists than usual. Even though this destination is not very touristy, in the high season it's busier than usual because this is when most visitors come here.
The warm weather in summer is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 25°C (77°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 28°C (82°F).
You'll also find it quite easy to get around on foot, because this is a very walkable port city, especially in the nice weather. During this season it's fun to experience the famous sights and museums, the historic old town, and the nightlife scene.
